Electricity and Water Safety
Electricity and water are two things that are awesome alone, but when mixed can create a dangerous combination. There are some very important precautions to take when there is the potential that these two forces may collide. Your lake power, bathroom, kitchen, or any outlets near a source of water may be a hazard if not properly protected.

Safety First
Hundreds of people every year pass away from water related electrocutions. Something that you can do to protect you and your loved ones is ensure that your home has proper GFCI protection. GFCI protection can come from a breaker that is GFCI protected or a device that has built in GFCI protection. These devices are commonly identified as having a reset button on them and are also known as GFIs, as GFI and GFCI are interchangeable.
GFCI Protection
A GFCI device, or ground fault circuit interrupter device is used to protect people from electrical shock. What the device does is it monitors the amount of power going to the device. So if you are using an electric device and accidentally drop it in water or it is exposed to water, the device will detect an interruption in current and cut the power potentially saving your life. So as much of a nuisance that the reset button on GFCI devices or a tripping GFCI breaker can be is actually quite understandable when its intention is understood.
